Careers
Early enough that what you build is the product.
ChampPay is small and in build. That means the work is unglamorous, consequential, and genuinely yours — not a ticket in somebody else’s backlog.
Working here
What it is actually like.
We would rather tell you the shape of the job honestly and lose the wrong candidate than sell it and lose the right one three months in.
Small team, wide scope
You will do things outside your title. If that reads as a warning rather than an attraction, this is the wrong stage of company for you and that is a completely reasonable position.
Built for the hard case
Patchy signal, older Android handsets, a queue that will not wait. We design for the difficult end of the market first, which is more interesting engineering than the easy end.
Regulated seriously
This is money. Compliance, risk and security are part of everybody’s job here rather than a department that says no at the end.
Open roles
Where we are hiring.
Roles are filled as the build requires them. If you are excellent and none of these fit, the last entry is not a formality.
Senior Backend Engineer — Payments
Core transaction processing, settlement and reconciliation. You have built systems where being wrong about money is not an option.
Android Engineer — SoftPOS
NFC, contactless acceptance, and making a payment feel certain on a three-year-old handset in a busy room.
Compliance & Risk Lead
KYC, AML, source-of-funds process and partner-facing risk documentation. You have sat on the institution side of this table and know what convinces.
Merchant Growth Manager
First merchants, first pilots, first honest feedback. Field-heavy, relationship-led, and the closest role to the actual customer.
Product Designer
Interfaces used at speed by people who did not choose to learn them. Clarity under pressure, on a small screen, in bright sunlight.
Open application
If you are exceptional at something we will obviously need, write to us and say what it is. We read every one of these properly.
Hiring
How the process runs.
01
You write
The role, a short note on why, and whatever evidence of your work you are proudest of.
02
Conversation
A real one, with someone who does the work — not a screening call about your greatest weakness.
03
Practical
A problem close to the actual job, scoped to respect your time. Paid if it takes real hours.
04
Decision
A clear yes or no, with a reason, quickly. Silence is not an answer we give.
